Earlier this month, the Forward Party was officially created, which will be co-chaired by former Democratic Presidential Candidate Andrew Yang, and former Republican governor of New Jersey, Christine Todd Whitman. The newborn party hopes to expand to all 50 states by 2024, and was made to create moderate solutions to problems. The official policies of this party include implementing term limits, a department of technology, and the creation of Universal Basic Income.
As the views of this party are for the most part moderate to liberal, Democrats have said that this party might take away votes from the dems, giving Republicans the advantage. However, the party has stated that it will not be a so-called “spoiler party” because it will support both Democratic and Republican candidates who maintain the party’s positions. However, it does seem that the forward party is skewing left wing, as the vast majority of political endorsements are for Democrats, and there are none for Republicans. Since the forward party is so young, affiliates of the party will most likely run as a Republican or Democrat. Despite this, the Forward Party has said they may hold primaries to nominate a candidate for the 2024 Presidential Election.
If the Forward Party does in fact run in the 2024 Presidential Election, they probably won’t do very well. The Republicans and Democrats have been so ingrained in our culture, America probably would not be open minded enough to vote for the Forward Party, and will probably just stick to the two main ones. This all boils down to one main truth. If you want to change the political landscape in America, you have to do it from the inside. We have already seen this happen in our country’s politics. For example, Donald Trump split the Republican party into the Establishment and the MAGA (Make America Great Again) wings. Bernie Sanders has split the Democratic Party into the Moderate wing, and the Liberal wing.
The final take is that the Forward Party made a big mistake by creating its own party. The Forward Party has mostly Democratic beliefs and therefore it should have started out as a caucus of the Democratic party, and then tried to build itself up as a major faction of the party. But right now, things aren’t looking good.
